WHY WE SHOULD BE WORRIED ABOUT ANTOINE SMITH: Who is this shadowy character from Hulong?

WHY WE SHOULD BE WORRIED ABOUT ANTOINE SMITH:  Who is this shadowy character from Hulong?  Simple answer:  a very dangerous guy. The first time we met him was in The Alignment: Ingress.  He and his shadowy partner, Chen,  who was found dead in Mexico City were carrying out a murderous Conflict Metals campaign in Africa and attempting to acquire the secrets of Dark XM from a Congo Crater.  Nearly caused Hank Johnson and Conrad Yeats to recurse before their time. I

f we skip past the question of why Smith survived and Chen died (Or did he. Cryptic hints from the Fragment of the Shaper Key suggests that either Chen's death was faked, or they somehow brought him back) we can not escape the fact that  Hulong has been in the Dark XM business for a long time.

But back to Smith. he surfaces again in the Niantic Project Wiki in reference to something called  'The Chaotic Syndrome'.  One reference and then its gone.  What's that?  Does he have it?

What we do know is that he's the action arm of Hulong called Strategic Explorations.  He may or may not have been either a mercenary or special forces.  He is to them what Lorazon is to IQTech or Claudia Glas is to Visur. Thus it is reasonable to believe that when his name is mentioned, Hulong is planning to go kinetic.  This is not a good sign.

  1. There's also the long history of working at cross purposes to Hank Johnson. Alignment: Ingress was the first time we saw him but Hank had plenty of experience with him when that story opened.

As for CMS he was blackmailed by Dr Oliver Lynton-Wolfe to releasing his RedX scanner prototypes in return for treatment. Hulong Transglobal had caused but could not cure many cases of it.

  2. That is correct. Hank Johnson serves as a nemesis to Antoine Smith.  It would not surprise me if part of the reason we haven't heard from Johnson since his recursion (if he recursed) is Smith's doings.  But I have nothing to support that.

  3. Chaotic Syndrome went quiet after Oliver Lynton-Wolfe's deal with Antoine Smith. Since Smith is alive and well (as far as we can tell), there must have been a cure (or body replacement). Hulong Transglobal has always been the leader in Dark XM research and technology and there is no evidence to prove that they've fallen behind (other than OLW spending their reserves attacking Roland Jarvis).

  4. And what is the relationship between Roland Jarvis and Hulong?  Bankok wasn't that long ago.

  5. The wiki has become a vital tool for us investigators. I'm not surprised to see you reference it. It's also interesting that you mentioned Conrad Yeats as possibly experiencing a recursion with Hank Johnson. Could Conrad be a simulacrum as well?

  6. That's a great question H. Richard Loeb! That was never clarified. We do know that Roland Jarvis was involved with Hulong Transglobal's ability to release the Jarvis Virus, but after that, Catherine Fan had reasons to want to eliminate their business obligations with him, thus the OLW gambit. We've had nothing since then...

  7. Yik Sheng Lee I took note of that statement too. I'm waiting for one other piece of corroborating evidence before I run with that 'recurse' statement.

  8. Hasn't it been tentatively established that Antoine was the same "Mr. Smith" that was a patient of Dr. Hollis before his madness and suicide? It seems that he's been in deep from the very start. How many deaths can he be connected to, either directly or indirectly?

  9. Ian Friedrich my assumption is that based on his line of work and background even he couldn't tell you all the deaths he's responseable for. But if Smith is gearing up to do something it makes me wonder what is going on behind closed doors at the consortium. It was uneasy to begin with but if hulong were to use Smith to attack other members of the consortium while they are not expecting it then we could easily see a full scale corporate war. On the other hand if Smith were to get a ball rolling it could be hulong acting on behalf of the consortium. If that is the case watching Smith's actions, and perhaps the actions of Lorazon and Glas, could give us in the investigative community valuable insights into what leads the consortium is following.

  10. It looks like some updating to the wiki and some dossier research is needed :)

  11. Wait... H. Richard Loeb are you saying Conrad Yeats is a simulacrum too?

  12. Brent Hollett sure sounded that way to me. I'm curious what he's basing that on? I've not seen any other references to it.

  13. Forgive me any confusion I've caused.  It is generally believed that the Mr. Smith Hollis referred to was in fact Roland Jarvis..  Antoine Smith is a very different character.  That may or may not be his birth name.

  14. H. Richard Loeb so... what you're saying is that Roland Jarvis was so heavily dosed with XM and/or CM as to "infect" Hollis, weeks of not months before Epiphany Night?
