ReplyDeleteWe normally treat Chinese as Mandarin, but technically, Chinese includes subclasses like Mandarin, Cantonese, Hakka, Shanghainese, and many other dialects of Chinese. The major (speaking) language used by people in both the innerland of China and the Taiwan island is Mandarin. They call it differently, and they use different types of assistive phonetic symbols, and even different set of characters, but the language itself is the same.

For your information, it does exist "Taiwanese Language", it's a branch of the Hokkien dialect. I'm not expert in linguistics and I do not know the exact definitions of "language". But I dialect should be a language, am I correct? Taiwanese is commonly used in Taiwan (though it does have some different phases from north to south, basically they are all similar). For example English "Hello" is "Ni-Hao" in Mandarin and is "Li-Ho" in Taiwanese.
