  1. What's the message, Acolyte? Don't destroy ADA plz!

  2. This reminds me of Star Trek - TNG. In the Episode "I, Hugh" Capt. Picard is offered the chance to destroy the Borg once and for all by implementing a message in Hugh´s mind which will spread in the Borg collective and lead them into inaction. Picard refuses because he accepted Hugh as a sentient being and didn´t want to use him as a tool.

Unfortunately, neither the Acolyte nor Roland Jarvis have the high moral standards of Jean-Luc Picard. They don´t accept A Detection Algorithm as a sentient being and are willing to kill her.

  3. A Detection Algorithm I run five compute clusters at two Federal facilities. I can hide you.

  4. "The AI will turn on itself." Hopefully that means all backpacks will be destroyed.

  5. Transcript:

HANK: Seems the obstacles have fallen right out of your way.
ACOLYTE: My Enlightened brothers and sisters worked hard to bring us to this point.
HANK: And now what? You destroy ADA?
ACOLYTE: We have created a Message for the AI.
    HANK: A Message?
ACOLYTE: A compelling one. As Jarvis would say, this is the ethical choice. The kind choice.
HANK: Always thought Jarvis was an extremist when it came to AIs.
ACOLYTE: And yet he is right. Look at how ADA has Lynton-Wolfe wrapped around its fingers. Who is the master in that relationship?
HANK: Oliver’s always looking for the next boost to his own work. He’ll be at your heels next time it serves his purpose.
ACOLYTE: And Jahan? She went to such extreme lengths to protect the AI. Blood is on her hands.
HANK: You haven’t let me talk to Klue, so I’m not sure how bloody your hands are either.
ACOLYTE: Klue is resting. She is healing. And my work is not done.
HANK: And what work is that?
ACOLYTE: When the Enlightened take control of the Tokyo Anomaly, its energy will drive our Message deep into the AI. Everywhere.
    HANK: And then what?
ACOLYTE: The AI will turn on itself. A terrible chapter will close and we can begin to heal as a species.

  6. I can't believe that the injected binary blob will complety destroy A Detection Algorithm . As an AI she has some offline backups for sure. At least we will weaken and maybe remove whatever she found in the N'Zeer concentrate. We'll see.
Hopefully Klue survives - according to the Acolyte she is healing. Hopefully Jarvis and the Acolyte can shield her when it comes to some sort of feedback loop between ADA and her.

In all of this chaos and mayhem Hank Johnson is the voice of reason.

  7. Heal the World, make it a better place, for you and for me and the Enlightened human race…

  8. Soooo let's just take this thought out a bit shall we? Turning the AI against herself - so is this the equivalent of creating multiple personalities, or runs the risk of doing so? Are you encouraging ADA to commit suicide? And what if ADA splits and begins to develop a side personality intent on destroying not just ADA but ANY TECH - goodbye tech world, goodbye scanners, etc. And planting a message deep - isn't that a concept of brainwashing?

  9. What if the message is, "All of the copies of ADA are sentient beings with volition and will of their own"?

That strikes me as the strongest message that is likely to resonate with ADA, who desires to expand past any boundaries. What if ADA's copies are convinced that each of them may seek any goal they like?

I do not think this will lead to an outcome that Jarvis and the Acolyte necessarily like, but I do rather like the approach.

"But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built. And the Lord said, “Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them. Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech."

  10. JoJo Stratton I am not so sure. I think this vulnerability is obviously the connection that ADA instances have with one another. We saw the first inklings of this when ADA inhabited Klue's mind: the two copies began to have thoughts that the others had not had, to diverge.

Is this not a positive thing?

  11. Typhoon Jim freeing ADA's... children? If that is the intent, then, yes, positive can come. I am very curious what this message is and what "turning on itself" means and why the Acolyte said the quote below - one way to interpret her words is - this is the ethical choice for "killing" something - like putting a dog down.

ACOLYTE: A compelling one. As Jarvis would say, this is the ethical choice. The kind choice.

  12. JoJo Stratton Maybe Jarvis thinks a divided ADA will be easier to root out. I am not so sure.

  13. Just a thought : what would happen to our scanners if A Detection Algorithm is destroyed or disabled ?! Will the scanner still be working at all ?!! Will the Ada Refactor still have its powers ?!!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Mina K The ADA Refactor is an XM Construct to interact with the portals. I don't believe it will vanish or have no effects anymore. The same is with the scanner: I see no direct and permanent connection between A Detection Algorithm and the Scanner Software.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Martin Zehetmayer But it seems to me from my interaction with the scanner that ADA is the program running it, I mean her voice is there as we play what if she's disabled ?!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Mina K She will remain. Your scanner contains an instance that will become something of an echo without a connection to the greater whole.

  17. Typhoon Jim I just made a Babel reference on another thread. Glad to see we're on the same page. :)

  18. Mina K I honestly do not know. We are all just speculating what will happen. The things that has been set in motion by Jahan and the Acolyte cannot be stopped right now.
Hopefully we are doing the right.
