Dr.

Dr. Wright's hangout today was an interesting watch. He echoed some information that I have been been monitoring across a number of channels (although he probably got some of the details wrong -- to be expected given his mentally fragmented state).

At this point it seems certain that the Researchers were turned into Simulacra at some point during the Niantic Project. This was masterminded by Calvin, although his reasons are not yet fully known. Reassembling the identities of these researchers and attempting to bring them back to this earthly plane lies at the heart of #Abaddon.

Each researcher in #Abaddon has been connected to an Anomaly, and those individual Anomalies seem to be able to control how their patterns are reassembled, affecting them in unique ways (the most cursory of which one could call Enlightened vs. Resistance bias).

However, it also appears that by controlling the #Abaddon series as a whole, the Factions will be able to control whether all the researchers return as either Humans or Simulacra.

From what I can gather, the N'zeer wish to preserve the researchers as Simulacra -- Why? To enhance their connection with their informational substrate?

And what of the opposite? Does remaining a biological entity somehow enhance what Jarvis has called the connection to the Ultimate?

Or perhaps the presence of the N'zeer is forcing the Shapers to go on the defensive -- seeking to deny an advantage to their adversary, even if it requires a sacrifice.

I don't know the answer to those questions yet, but these are interesting times. I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

  1. Perhaps you have some insight into why Hank Johnson was a simulacrum after the 13 Mangus ritual, Richard? Some have suggested it was because the 13 Magnus ritual was based on the Anti-Magnus rituals (and, consequently, nzeer technology). What's your take on it? Jarvis seemed to be able to reach the Ultimate during his time as an XM being, so I'm not sure why the Shapers would want their followers to be returned to fully human form either. Thoughts?

  2. If the 13 Magnus ritual was based on an Anti-Magnus / nzeer ritual, then is there a purer shaper ritual that more perfectly preserves immortality? Is that was Jarvis was alluding to?

  3. Erm, so... (completely out of game) watching that particular interview... is there any reason it was made unreasonably hard for folks who are either hard of hearing, or don't have english as their first language?

  4. The Nzeer knowledge can be used to make humans "immortal" by making them into simulacra. A simulacrum is the same pattern "trapped" in a physical body. The Shapers wish humans to proceed to the Ultimate as patterns, having lived lives that expose them to lots of portals and creating different patterns each time.

  5. It was a very interesting exchange. One thing that is clear, if anything, is that there are far to many questions that need answers.

  6. If only the resistance would eat that poisoned carrot. An enlightened sweep would weaken the enlightened in the long run since the shapers will loose their simulacrum and will cause our leaders to remain mortal, and will cut them off from the ultimate (until their time in this reality comes to an end). It would preserve the Resistances's original goal of preserving humanity against alien manipulation.

  7. If the 13Magnus ritual really is reverse engineered N'Zeer tech then it's likely they have superior refinement of the process. Azmati merely hid Hank Johnson's body at the nest for safekeeping. Theoretically the N'Zeer could use the original body as a key, maintaining an ongoing connection to the simulacrum it is patterned on. Could the glyphs Carrie Campbell felt compelled to inscribe herself with have been an intuitive grasping at such a process?

  8. also - in the case of hank - if you were made into simulacra, then return to human form, can you ever be changed again?  And what happened with Jarvis? Why was his return not complete?

  9. So ... if simulacra are a N'zeer thing, why did Jahan (Anti-Magnus) call Hank Johnson (13 Magnus simulacrum) abomination?
