Here’s a tricky question that we’ve been dancing around for a while. There’s a lot of suggestion that the Niantic Project was secretly an attempt to create a 13MAGNUS.  Seems that there were around 13 investigators, depending on who you count -- maybe more. Any way around, this seems to have been Calvin’s baby. Given that Calvin was in on Waratah (hope I spelled that right) and Whydah, he kind of has a history with strange investigations, but it seems that he’s had a thing about 13MAGNUS ever since he hired Hank to find out about them back when Hank was still in school and stumbled on the term.  The odd thing is that Calvin seems to have decidedly little interest in Anti-Magnus.  Wouldn’t that be kind of like playing poker and only caring about the red cards? Come to think of it, there are 13 cards in a suit, not counting the mysterious often duel nature high/low aces. But I’m straying here. Back to 13MAGNUS.  Was the Niantic Project an attempt to create one, and if so, why?

  1. Is it not possible that Calvin already is/was aware of Antimagnus & their history? If Calvin was a member of the AntiMagnus movement, wouldn't that explain why he only appears to be interested in 13Magnus & their history?

  2. Of note, there's 13 bio cards going around... Correct me if I'm wrong, but they don't exactly align with the list of "13 sensitives" people have agreed on.

    So... why?

  3. Until about a year ago none of us hat heard the term Anti-Magnus. The closest we got was the implication that someone was erasing evidence of 13Magnus. For all we knew that was the cabal keeping themselves secret.

X doesn't seem to have as frequent a set of drops from IQTech (or as much interest in releasing them) as PAC did, so I'm not sure a Calvin's interest in Antimagnus is deficient. If its so then there are several possible explanations, the most likely being that he either already knows all about them or knows their secrets are less valuable.

  4. Niantic Project sounds like 13Magnus if its purpose was to monopolize the exploitation of XM in order to shape the progress of civilization. Only that Niantic Project was predominantly an American imagination (from the evidence so far), whereas 13Magnus was multi-national/cultural - perhaps the sum and representation of all human civilization/cultures.

If its a national project, then Niantic Project is probably USA's effort to use the methods of 13Magnus to perpetuate Pax Americana.

  5. If Calvin isn't AntiMagus (which is actually a possibility), then his lack of interest may just stem from not wanting to split his resources even further than they are already.

  6. One reason that Calvin might not shine much attention on Anti-Magnus, could very well be because he is Anti-Magnus.

If so, he wanted Hank Johnson to investigate #13Magnus  either to find a way to infiltrate it, destroy it, or duplicate what they do.

The Waratah, Whydah, and Niantic Project may have been varying stages of progression on a mission to recreate the 13Magnus ritual.  Investigating the possibility, forming a process of finding member/sensitives, and then actually attempting the ritual.

This is likely even more reason why Roland Jarvis was "Allowed to escape" so he could deliberately be killed near the HB portal in Zurich.  Just like Hank being killed at the Afghan anomaly zone/portal was key to his own 13Magnus process.

In fact...I venture to say that Hank being shot at that cave in Afghanistan may very well have been at the design of Ezekiel Calvin.  One of the first tests of the 13Magnus ritual.

This might mean that Azmati was either a 13Magnus member beguiled into performing the ritual on Hank so zeke could learn from it, or that he isn't with 13Magnus at all and is part of Anti-Magnus with Zeke, and Hank's seemingly imperfect, recursive resurrection was one of their first trial runs of experimenting with the ritual.

  7. Another possibility is that 13magnus ain't what it used to be, and there is no 13magnus per se anymore since antimagnus wiped it off the map. Reconstructions of bits and pieces of it would be a good goal for someone that wants to rebuild it- and become the leader of its new age.

  8. Here is the wiki page on 13Magnus - it is out of date and could use some research help - but it is a start

What do we have in terms of official documents regarding Antimagnus?

  9. In the intro video, Calvin's voice apparently claims that the mission of 13MAGNUS is to study the effects of XM on human minds? In retrospect, the implication is the study of Shaper ingression and gain access to XM technology while firewalling or containing the result to avoid spillover to humanity at large. Assuming control fields work, and Calvin's apparent indifference to an ENL or RES win, he may be hedging his bet by playing both sides (13MAGNUS and ANTIMAGNUS) against the other.
